Barnabas Dorr Palmer personal papers

The papers include (1) a testimony to his recent left-handness sworn before Douglas County Clerk in 1867, (2) a manuscript titled "A sketch of my military history" which he entered in a penmanship contest, sponsored by William Oland Bourne, editor of the "Soldier's Friend", (3) a letter from General U.S. Grant awarding Palmer first prize in the contest, and (4) letter awarding Palmer a $50 prize.

The complete title is "The Barteldes Family Tree compiled by Bernhard Christoph Barteldes-1791," though the time period covered in the tree is 1529-1963. Friedo and F.W. Barteldes, included in the tree, were the proprietors of the Barteldes Seed Company, founded in Lawrence, Kansas in the late 1800s.

Includes a 1917 sophomore team (logos on jerseys difficult to read); 1913-1914 juniors with a trophy (emulsion is flaking off plate); undated portrait (there appears to be an 8 on the basketball?); and the 1912-1913 S.J.H.S. team (plate is cracked in half). The teams are in various standing, seated, and kneeling poses and consist of 5-7 boys in uniform.
